Hello National Poetry Month Lovers!!

If you know of anyone who would like to be on the email list, please feel free to share my info with them.  If you know of any events, please let me know.  If you have fliers, please pass them along.  If you will be part of an event, please share.  If there is something wrong on the venue list, please let me know as soon as you can.  I just don’t want to send people to a venue that no longer exists or has had a change in its program.  Remember knowledge is power!!

National Poetry Month went by fairly quickly, but that won’t stop us from writing!

1.  You Can’t Keep A Good Fuzzy Down!! – Fuzzy Wednesdays is back again at the Palace on Plume in Norfolk!!  Please see venue list for more details.

2.  Hot Ticket!! – Show and Grow Your Prose is very popular these days.  There are only 8 slots for each event and slots for May 5th and 26th are already gone!  There are 6 slots left in July and 8 in September.  If you want to share your work, please don’t hesitate, register now!!  Please click on the link for more details about the venue and to register:  http://www.hamptonroadswriters.org/omlf.php

3.  Returning - Poetry in the Park is back beginning Thursday, May 3rd.  Donations are welcomed, and benefit the Hampton Roads Youth Poets, who will be going to San Francisco in July to represent the 757!!

4.  Two Week Hiatus – There will be no Poetic Expressions open-mic on May 1st and May 8th, but don’t worry, they’ll be back Tuesday, May 15th.

5.  New Group – Creative Writers of Hampton Roads will do their first meet and greet on Friday, May 11th.  You must be signed up for meetup.com and the creative writing group to attend.  I’ve included a link in case you want to look over it to see if this is something you might be interested in:  http://www.meetup.com/VirginiaWriters/

6.  New Venue – Beginning Wednesday, May 2nd, there will be a weekly open mic at the Ritz Café in Norfolk VA.  The poetry starts at 8:00.  Please see venue list for more details.

7.  PFAC and Poetry – Artistic Verses Program is a four day literary event for high school students of Newport News.  This program has been facilitated by Nathan Richardson, and the students will have their final showcase on Saturday, May 12th at 11:00 am.  This is free and open to the public.  Come out and show your support for the future writers of 757.  I went last year and let me tell you, they taught me a thing or two!  To learn more about the history of the Artistic Verses Program, and to read some of the winning poems, please click on this link:  http://community.nn.k12.va.us/artisticverses/?cat=311.

(FB) Poetry and WWP:  Arts in the Shop:  Poets Benefiting the Wounded Benefiting the Warrior Wounded Project is a reading benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project, and on April 29th, will feature the poetry of Tarfia Faizullah and Nathan Richardson. These poets are awesome, and you don't want to miss them. I AM (Poetry Autism Awareness Month) was initially created by Poetikk Justice and Autism Advocate Angel Barnhill in observance of April's National Poetry month and Autism Awareness month. The event usually gathers both poets and autism awareness advocates together so they can share interests and ideas about each other’s causes.  This year the event will take place on Monday, April 30, 2012 at Huntersville Community Center in Norfolk from 6:00 to 8:00pm.  If you are a poet, singer, musician, DJ, visual artist, dancer, etc., please share your talent with us. This event is free and open to the public. 7.  Poetry Play Reminder – The Students of the Academy of Arts presents – “For Colored Girls” at the Booker T Washington High School @ 1111 Park Ave, Norfolk VA, on April 27th and 28th, , both starting at 7:00.  This play is a collection of poems representing the struggles and obstacles African-American women have faced and overcome.   It is directed and co-produced by fellow 757 poet Tonya “Poetikk Justice” Shell.  The tickets are $20, but as of April 11th, the price has been reduced to $10.  For more info, please call 757-628-3575.

I just learned that NSU Asst. Professor, Daniel Pearlman will also be a featured reader at PFAC's Art After 5 tonight!!  Toni Wynn and Daniel Pearlman in the same room equals a great night of poetry!!
