1.  Coffee Break:  Friday's Prime Time Poetry Show at Bean There Cafe is on a short hiatus.  They will return August 10th.

The Good Word This Week:

2.  PPP next stop, Prince George!!:  Poetry, Prose, and Pizza will make its way back to Prince George on Tuesday, July 31st.  Please see venue list for more details.

3.  Mirror, Mirror:  “Becoming What I Hate!”  is an upcoming play by Music and Poetry Night’s coordinator, Marie St. Clair.  Come out to Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center on August 26 at 4:00 to see the many talents of 757.  You will also hear some poetry in the play with open-mic scenes, and I’m sure we are all familiar with that!  One show, one night, and it’s free and open to the public!!  Support the arts and support the community.  (flier attached)

The Good Word This Week:

The Good Word This Week:

1.  Who or Whom?  That is the Question!!:  Travelling Pen Series is back with their July workshop:  “Refresher Grammar” on Saturday, July 21st from 9:00 – 12:30.  The cost is $10 for HRW members and $20 for non-HRW members.  For more details or to “Join” the Facebook invitation:  https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/328274950590554 or just go to the HRW website:  http://www.hamptonroadswriters.org/tps2012.php.

2.  Seminar:  The DAAU Book Club will host the Authors and Writers seminar, “Write the Vision and Make it Plain,” on Saturday, July 21st from 8:30 – 2:00 at the Hilton in Suffolk.  For more information, please go to:  www.pwlwebmagazine.com or call 757-339-3605.  There is a $36.50 registration fee.  DAAU will take $5 off the individual registration fee this weekend only (July 13th – July 15th).     

3.  Poetry in the Community:  Green Room Productions will host Poetry in the Park (PIP) on Saturday, August 4th at 6:30 at The Plot in Norfolk.  This is not an open-mic.  This will be a performance gift to those public housing or low income areas in Norfolk.  For those who would like to participate, please attend the breakfast meeting on Saturday, July 21st at 10:00 a.m.  The cost is $10.  Green Room will also casting and audition information for upcoming events.  For more details about Green Room Productions, PIP and the breakfast meeting:  https://www.facebook.com/events/list#!/events/328274950590554/ and

5.  Returning:  Melodics is back at The Palace on the Plume, every Thursday night from 9 pm to midnight (doors open at 8:30).  This open-mic is for all artists. The cost is $5, and the host is GodChild (he’s like everywhere!!).  For musicians:  Music MUST BE on a MP3, IPOD or cell (no exceptions!!).  Please see venue list for more details. 

6.  Local Author’s Day Last Stop:  The third and final installment of Local Author’s Day will be at the Pearl Library on July 21st from 2:00 to 5:00.  Hopefully, I will have a list of authors to provide some time next week!!

7.  Rocky 2, Poetry Style:  Hampton University will host the re-match between HU and NSU in November.  More details to come…just wanted to put a bug in your ear!

8.  Sneak Peek…757!!:  Literary Life Online Magazine will be coming soon to a computer near you!  Created by and created for the writing community in the 757 area.  As soon as more details surface, I will be sure to pass it on.  Once it goes live, I’ll be sure to get the link!!  I’ve attached a copy of the cover.  Gooooo 757!!

4.  Local Author’s Day at Grissom:  Keisha Barham, poet and author of the inspirational book, “Breathe Forth,” will be one of the authors participating in Local Author’s Day this Saturday, July 14th from 2:00 – 5:00 at the Grissom Branch Library in Newport News VA.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to obtain a list of all of the authors who will be there within the next couple of days.

The second Friday of every month we bring you a dose of poetry & rock n roll. Talented local wordsmiths kick off the night with featured readings; this month we're showcasing the work and performances of participants from our Monday night workshop/critique group series, so come on out and cheer your local colleagues! The evening progresses with an open mic where all of the poetic persuasion are welcome to share a piece or three of their own, and the night wouldn't be complete without some lyrical riffs from our rockstar-in-residence. Light refreshments are served for the whole, and your $5 at the door goes to support the gallery & our ongoing events there. Come out and get heard!

The whole is set off by C'est le Vin's enticing wine selection, gourmet delectables & gorgeous art exhibits.
