Poetry Virginia: Eastern Region Annual Meeting
Saturday, November 14, 10:30-1:30
at the Tabb Branch of the York County Library,
100 Long Green Blvd, Yorktown, VA 23693.

From I-64, take Exit 256B to Victory Blvd (VA-171 E)
Turn right at the fifth stoplight onto Hampton Highway (VA-134 E)
The library will be on your right at the first stoplight

1)     Introduction & information about national poetry contests
2)     Presentation by featured poet
3)     Short break
4)     Open Mic

The theme of this program is contests. Preceding the featured poet will be a short talk about poetry contests. A handout will be provided. The featured poet will then share some of his contest-winning poems and discuss their evolution. An open mic will close out the event.

The featured poet will be Derek Kannemeyer. In last year’s annual poetry contests sponsored by Poetry Virginia, Mr. Kannemeyer won first place in four categories and placed in seven others. His lyrical style of poetry and his infectious enthusiasm should make for a captivating presentation.

Halloween Poetry Happenings!


Join Slam Richmond Halloween night for the Return of the Dead Poems!! Bring your old, dead, retired shit and resurrect the word onstage. Costumes are encouraged!! Poetry & Jazz Tasting C'est Le Vin, 15 N. 17th St. RVA 23219 Thursday November 5, 7pm Poetry, jazz and wine—what better way to wind down a long day? Join us! Over the course of the evening, local wordsmiths of all experience levels will give us a “taste” of what they do in five minutes or less. Bob Lambert & co. will be livening it up with some smooth tunes and providing musical accompaniment to any poet so desiring. Want to join in the fun? Make sure to get on the list! Words on Fire: Poetry Happy Hour at Firehouse Firehouse Theatre, 1609 W. Broad St., RVA 23220 Friday November 20, 6pm Kick off your weekend with a dose of hot verse at Firehouse! Featuring mini-readings by some folks you may know & an open mic sign up for those wishing to sling some spit themselves, this’ll be a fabulous way to get the weekend, and the holiday pre-season, rolling. TaZa’s laid-back atmosphere, expanded menu and adult refreshment make it a perfect place to relax and take in some chill wordsmithery of a night. No language or theme restrictions. First-time readers/performers always welcome.

Freewrite Tuesdays at Sub Rosa! Sub Rosa Bakery 620 N. 25th St., RVA 23223 Tuesdays, 10:30-11:30am-ish Who says poetry has to be done in a shuttered attic or at a lonely desk? Resolve to spend some quality time with your muse every week with us! This group’s purpose is to create a cozy and informal venue to freewrite and converse-- we believe writing doesn't have to be a solitary sport, and that you never know what inspiration might walk through the door. Although we're open to specialized topics and sharing, there is no formal critique or workshop agenda— simply show up & come and go as you please!

2015 PSoV Book Award!

The Poetry Society of Virginia2015 Book Award

The book of poetry submitted must be (1) the work of a single author, (2) at least 48 pages in length, and (3) published in 2015 by an established press.  Manuscripts, videos, CDs, and chapbooks are not accepted, nor are books that have already won major awards. It is expected that books will contain a collection of new poems and/or previously published poems.

Service, First-Class Mail or Media Mail (no special delivery).
