September Poetry Happenings in Richmond!!

Tea for Two: Poetry on the Veranda
Richmond Public Library, Main Branch, 101 E. Franklin St., RVA 23219
Saturday September 3, 11am-1pm
Our outdoor reading event in partnership with Richmond Public Library is back for fall! In this next of the 2016 Tea for Two series, poets Stan Galloway and Mark Fitzgerald will share their works on the veranda overlooking Library Park. Join us for a late morning cup of coffee or tea & light refreshments, plus plenty of time to relax, chat, meet the poets and check out their books. In case of rain, the event will be moved inside.

Poetry in Abandoned Spots and Forgotten Spaces— Texas Beach, Take 2
Meet in the parking area at 1941 Texas Ave., RVA 23220
Saturday September 10, 1pm; please see below for inclement weather location
RSVP required (reply by email)
Since our first Texas Beach excursion got moved indoors due to rain, we're having a second go before summer's completely over. What to bring: hiking or tennis shoes (we’ll do a bit of walking), water, sunscreen, snacks, camera, pen/notebook & poems (yours or anything you'd like to share). We'll be reading, writing, talking & breathing poetry while exploring the lesser known North Bank Trail. Swimming still optional!
Note that this is an open air event with limited amenities. RSVP required. In case of bad weather, we’ll be taking it downtown to meet for poetry & afternoon cocktails (again) at Belle & James, 700 E. Main St.

Poetry Night @ Café Zata
Café Zata, 5047 Forest Hill Ave., RVA 23225
Friday September 23, 7pm
Join us again for an evening full of friends and poetry at the cafe formerly known as taZa! Our open mic night continues to grow at this cool Westover Hills spot. Fresh-made fare and a glass or two from Zata's dinner and bar menu make the night complete! No theme or language restrictions.

Words on Fire: Poetry Happy Hour at Firehouse
Firehouse Theatre, 1609 W. Broad St., RVA 23220
Tuesday September 27, 6-7:30pm
Cover: $5
We're rounding out September with another evening of red hot word at Firehouse! Featuring showcase performances by local poets, our open mic signup for those with a verse or two to share, and a cash bar with happy hour specials, it's a great way to break up the work week. Hope to see you there!

Freewrite Tuesdays at Sub Rosa!
Sub Rosa Bakery
620 N. 25th St., RVA 23223
1st & 3rd Tuesdays, 10:30-11:30am-ish
Need a push to get writing, or just need to get out of the house? We hear you! Whatever your genre, come write with us at Sub Rosa on August 2nd or 16th! This is a cool and informal venue to freewrite and converse-- we believe writing doesn't have to be a solitary sport, and that inspiration can walk through the door at any moment. Although we're open to specialized topics and sharing, there is no formal critique or workshop agenda, and no RSVP required— simply show up & be ready to write!
