Richmond Poetry Happenings in July!!

pipeline in summer

Summer is upon us!

Dear poet,

As you contemplate ways to keep cool through the sultry, sticky days and long gentle nights, check out our full complement of open mic events and critiques. Or pick up your pen and get some words down-- let poetry be the sweat of your soul (without the unpleasant odor). You have till the end of the month (midnight, July 31) to send work to our first-ever anthology, so get that muse in gear if you haven't already. Read on for more info on all of the above!

Poetry & Jazz Tasting

C'est Le Vin, 15 N. 17th St., RVA 23219
Thursday July 6, 7pm
Poetry & jazz go together like summertime & white wine! Join us, together with the harmonica-wielding Bob Lambert & friends, for an evening of vino, verse & live tunes. (The more poetry the merrier, so if you'd like to share a poem or two, drop me a message or find me early on in the evening!)

Words on Fire: Poetry Happy Hour at Firehouse

Firehouse Theatre, 1609 W. Broad St., RVA 23220
Friday July 11, 6pm
Break up the dull work week routine with a dose of fiery word! We're back at Firehouse with a hot open mic opportunity... plus hear from our community showcase poet and relax with friends and a beverage or two. We don't call it happy hour for nothing!
$5 gets you in.
Interested in being a community showcase at a future Words on Fire event? You can now apply on our new website!

Poetry Night @ Café Zata

Café Zata, 5047 Forest Hill Ave., RVA 23225
Friday July 28, 7pm
Come hang out at our regularly scheduled fourth Friday night of open mic inspiration! Catch up with friends new and old, share what you've been working on, or just kick back and take it all in. Great food, adult beverages, coffee, sweets & more. No language or theme restriction. Always a great space to hear and get heard!

Monday Night Sessions

We're still on summer break for our workshops, but critique nights are business as usual on 2nd and 4th Mondays in the Slip.
Our dates this month are Monday, July 10 and Monday, July 24, both 6:30-8pm at the Urban Farmhouse at 1217 E. Cary St.. If you have a poem to share, please bring 6-9 copies for the table.
Critique nights and workshops continue to be open to all writing experience levels (unless otherwise noted) and completely free of charge. If you're inspired by what you learn, however, we encourage you to make a totally OPTIONAL secure online donation to support our workshops & events. 100% of funds (minus a small PayPal fee) go directly to the instructor and the furthering of these sessions. Thanks for all your help so far!

That's it for now! Don't forget to submit poems to our anthology! (If you're still not sure, come out and hear more about the project at the Belmont Branch of the Richmond Public Library on July 6 or 8-- we'll be there with bells & whistles.)

Meanwhile, have a great 4th of July week & weekend, and I'll hope to see you some time soon!

Yours in poetry,
